Siberian Silky Whiskers
Frequently Asked Questions
1
Which cat association will my kitten be registered with?
Our cattery, our breeding cats, and all of our kittens are registered with The International Cat
Association (TICA).
2
Why should I buy a kitten from you?
All Siberian cats are not created equal. There are large variations within the breed, but some Siberians cause little or no allergic reactions. As a breed, Siberians usually cause lower allergic responses than other cat breeds, but the levels vary widely within the breed. Our breeding cats have been tested, and they are carefully selected for their low level of allergens. We are fortunate to have a few Neva Masquerade breeding cats that have Fel d1 allergen levels (see the Allergen Info page for more information) among the lowest in the world.

Specializing in breeding the extremely low allergen Fel d1 Neva Masquerade, each Siberian kitten has a hypoallergenic fur with an exceptionally low level of Fel d1 and bright blue eyes.
3
What differentiates us from another Siberian cattery?
We breed only from Siberian Cat Neva Masquerade Pure breed, and the eyes of all our cats are blue. There are two types of Siberians: the traditional (usually colored tabby) and Neva Masquerade (pointing to white). This means that your kitten will be born from a mother and father that are both Neva Masquerade and test very low for the allergen Fel d1. Your kitten will be a Siberian Kitten Neva Masquerade Pure breed. Our cats and kittens come from a healthy and family environment and never from a third party. We take care of each one personally to ensure they become a sweet little angel. Socialization is a big part of our daily interaction with each kitten.
4
Are the Fel d1 tests reliable?
The older tests made several years ago gave controversial results, not very reliable and quite variable.
The saliva tests since 2010 have evolved and are now much more reliable to 80% on a kitten and 90% on an adult cat. The only reliable laboratory for Fel d1 testing is located in Virginia, USA.

Even today, some breeders are reluctant to the idea of testing the saliva of their breeding cats and mention that these tests are still unreliable. This is probably to avoid the following: the Fel d1 allergen tests are expensive and they do not want to invest in this expense, or the results of their breeding cat saliva test is disappointing and they prefer not to talk about it.
5
Who adopts from us?
Our adopters come from all walks of life: families, young workers or students, retirees, animal enthusiasts, people who offer animal therapy services, etc. All our adopters are important to us. Approximately 60% of our clientele are from the west coast and about 40% are from the rest of the United States, but our adopters can come from anywhere in the world. We have a sister cattery that specializes in Canadian families and individuals.
6
Where are you located?
Our kittens are in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area, but can be delivered to you.
7
Which kitten should I choose?
If you have cat allergies, the lower the Fel d1 level, the better. We are proud of the results of our breeders' saliva tests, and we can say that our cats have a very low degree of allergen Fel d1. The results are on the Our Siberians web page.
8
How will I know if a Siberian kitten has a low allergen Fel d1 degree?
The degree of Fel d1 allergens of a Siberian cat is on a scale from 0 to 32 mcg (micrograms). We consider a level of Fel d1 allergen of 3 or more mcg cannot be called a low-level Fel d1 cat and should not be sold in homes with allergies to cats. The typical range of Fel d1 for a Siberian cat is between 4 and 16 mcg. Our cattery contains no breeding cat above 0.30 mcg of Fel d1. The only way to know the level of Fel d1 is to test the saliva of a kitten in the laboratory, because the degree of allergens will be different for each kitten in a litter.
9
How are kittens identified?
Your kitten will have a special collar to identify it. Each kitten will also be microchipped and registered with Home Pet Today before it leaves Silky Whiskers.
10
How do I reserve a kitten?
We request a non-refundable deposit of $400 when your application is approved. The deposit will be deducted from the total cost of adoption.
11
Can I have my kitten shipped, and how much does it cost?
If you are close to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we or a pet nanny can deliver your kitten to you or meet you halfway. You may also come to Silky Whiskers to pick up your angel.
If you live far from Dallas/Fort Worth, you can fly to pick up your little angel, or we or a pet nanny can fly your kitten to you. The least stressful way to travel for a kitten is to travel in the cabin of the airplane. The price varies depending on the airport you choose and the date and time of the flight.
12
Can I visit the cattery to make sure I can tolerate a Siberian cat?
Visits to Silky Whiskers are by appointment only. Each visit is up to one hour and cost $25 per person,
per visit.
13
Do you take back a kitten in case of allergies?
No warranty is given about the possible reactions you may have or develop. We cannot guarantee that a kitten will not cause allergies. It is important to choose a kitten based on the severity of your allergic reactions to avoid disappointment. You can find more information on the Allergen Info page.
14
Is there a health guarantee?
Yes. Kittens are veterinary-certified to be in good health before leaving Silky Whiskers. We provide a one-year guarantee against genetic or congenital disease and heart disease. Kittens receive a verterinary exam before leaving, along with a travel certificate. All our kittens are given an FVRCP vaccination, dewormer, Rabies vaccination, and are spayed or neutered before leaving Silky Whiiskers.
15
When are kittens spayed or neutered?
Your kitten will be spayed or neutered before it leaves Silky Whiskers. It is much less stressful for kittens to go to the vet with their siblings.
16
I want to adopt a little Siberian angel, and I'm ready to give you my deposit and sign the reservation agreement!
Please contact us by email and include your phone number. We will contact you and send you a Reservation Agreement.
17
Can we talk on the phone?
We use email as our source of communication for new clients. It is convenient and also allows us to keep a record of conversations. For clients who are ready to adopt and in the process of selecting their kittens, we can also speak on the phone or use Zoom to connect.
18
At what age can kittens go to their new homes?
This depends on each kitten's individual needs. We will make the determination that they are both physically and emotionally ready to leave Silky Whiskers, because they need to be completely independent from their mother. The average age for going to their new home is 14 to 16 weeks.
